A hexafluoride is a chemical compound with six fluorine atoms. The name is most commonly used for binary compounds of the form MF6, but can also include hexafluoro anions like hexafluorophosphate and their (mostly hypothetical) conjugate acids.
The most important hexafluorides are sulfur hexafluoride, a high-voltage dielectric gas; uranium hexafluoride, the main feedstock of uranium enrichment; and hexafluoroaluminate, the salts of which are used in purifying aluminium.[source?]
