Joshua Michael Homme (/ˈhɒmiː/ HOM-ee; born May 17, 1973) is an American musician, singer-songwriter and record producer. He is best known as the founder, primary songwriter, and only continuous member of the rock band Queens of the Stone Age. They formed in 1996 after the break-up of his previous band, Kyuss. Through both, he became a major figure in stoner rock. Particularly its Palm Desert variant, desert rock. He also plays drums in the rock band Eagles of Death Metal. He co-founded them in 1998.

Homme began his career as the co-founder and guitarist of the rock band Kyuss. He was a member from with 1987 to 1995. Then he became a touring guitarist for the rock band Screaming Trees. This was from 1996 to 1998. He left to start Queens of the Stone Age. He has also overseen a musical improv project with other musicians (mostly from the Palm Desert Scene) known as The Desert Sessions., This has been since 1997. He formed the supergroup Them Crooked Vultures. This was alongside Dave Grohl and John Paul Jones in 2009. They released their eponymous debut album later that year. In 2016, he produced, co-wrote, and performed on the Iggy Pop album Post Pop Depression. He has also been involved with acts such as Royal Blood, Foo Fighters, Run the Jewels, and Arctic Monkeys.

Musical style

Much of Homme's early musical influences were punk rock and heavy metal. He and Kyuss drummer both loved bands like Black Flag and Discharge. This combined with a long addiction to drugs made him a pioneer a new genre, stoner rock, Particularly its Palm Desert variant, desert rock. His work has also spanned alternative rock, hard rock and heavy metal.

Charity work

In 2013, Homme co-founded the Sweet Stuff Foundation. They are charity that assists musicians, recording engineers, and their families struggling with illness and disability.
