Jotaro Kujo is a character in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, son of a Japanese jazz musician and Holly Kujo, who is the daughter of Joseph Joestar. He is the main "JoJo" (main character) in the third part of the manga, called Stardust Crusaders. He is also a major ally in Diamond Is Unbreakable (Part 4) and Stone Ocean (Part 6). He also appears briefly at the Beginning of the fifth part, Vento Aureo. He has super powers, which let him summon the "Stand" (a ghost from the user's soul) Star Platinum.

Star Platinum is named after the 17th Tarot card, the Star, which means Hope. It punches things and people with high speed and strength; he also has a secondary attack: Star Finger, which makes his second and third fingers longer. In the fight against DIO, he has the ability to stop time for five seconds (Two seconds in part four and part six, then five seconds at the end of part six). He has very high precision with his stand.

Creation

Clint Eastwood (left) inspired the personality of Jotaro, according to author Hirohiko Araki (right)

Hirohiko Araki, author of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, said he wanted a Japanese main character for Part 3 of his series near when he finished writing the first part, Phantom Blood.

He wanted the personality of characters in Part 3 to be different to the parts before it. For the main characters, Part 1 had a traditional gentleman who wanted justice in the world, Part 2 had a cheerful and fun character, so he decided Part 3's main character should hide how he feels. His body was made to look strong, and he wore a school uniform to make him look normal.

Araki said he based the personality of Jotaro Kujo on the American actor Clint Eastwood. Jotaro has the catchphrase "Good grief", which is a phrase Clint Eastwood would say in movies. Jotaro's most famous pose, him pointing his finger, is based on Clint Eastwood holding a gun.

Araki made Jotaro to be a "loner", which fits his idea of a good hero, because he does the right thing, but does not do it for attention.
