The Lamniformes (/ˈlæmnɪfɔːrmiːz/, from Greek lamna "fish of prey") are an order of sharks. They are commonly known as mackerel sharks. The order include the Great white shark (Carcharodon carcharias), Basking shark (Cetorhinus maximus) and Shortfin mako shark (Isurus paucus) from example.
Extinct family include the Otodontidae and Cretoxyrhinidae. This family include the famous megatoothed shark Carcharocles megalodon of Neogene and the Ginsu shark (Cretoxyrhina mantelli) of Early and Late Cretaceous, with several others now extinct.
