Career

Before playing in the NHL, Tkachuk played two seasons with the U.S. National Development Team of the United States Hockey League (USHL) and one season with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL).

He was drafted 6th overall by the Anaheim Ducks of the 2012 NHL entry draft. On July 7, 2016, Tkachuk signed a three-year entry-level contract to join the Flames.

On October 12, 2016, Tkachuk made his NHL debut in a 7–4 loss against the Edmonton Oilers. On October 18, Tkachuk scored his first NHL goal against Robin Lehner in a 4–3 overtime win against the Buffalo Sabres. On March 20, 2017, the league suspended Tkachuk for two regular games after he intentionally elbowed Los Angeles Kings player Drew Doughty in the head during a game. On March 10, 2019, he recorded his first NHL hat-trick in a 6–3 win against the Vegas Golden Knights. On September 25, Tkachuk signed a three-year, $21 million contract to stay with the Flames.

On July 22, 2022, the Flames traded Tkachuk along with a 2025 conditional fourth-round draft pick to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau, Cole Schwindt, MacKenzie Weegar, and a 2025 conditional first-round draft pick. He helped the Panthers during the playoffs. They defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning, Boston Bruins, and New York Rangers. They went on to defeat the Edmonton Oilers four games to three in the Final to win the first Stanley Cup in Panthers franchise history. Tkachuk and the Panthers made it back to the Stanley Cup Final the next year where they won their second Stanley Cup in a row.
