NES Open Tournament Golf (Mario's Open Golf in Japan) is a golf video game developed by Nintendo R&D2 and HAL Laboratory and published by Nintendo in 1991 for the Nintendo Entertainment System . This is the second golf game developed by Nintendo for the NES, namely one that features Mario as a playable character, the first being Golf. Two other golf games were also released in Japan for the Famicom Disk System in 1987, called Golf (Japan Course) and Golf (US Course).
There are some differences between NES Open Tournament Golf and its Japanese counterpart. Some noticeable differences include the Japanese version having five tournaments, while NES Open Tournament Golf has three. The soundtrack is also different.
Mario Open Golf was one of the video games based on the manga titled Cyber Boy, by Nagai Noriaki, published by Coro Coro Comic and Shogakukan, from 1991 to 1993.
