Nam June Paik (July 20, 1932 – January 29, 2006) was a Korean-born American artist. He is often thought to be the first video artist.

In 1963, Paik held a one-person exhibition at Galerie Parnass in Wuppertal, Germany. It included television sets whose pictures had been changed electronically. The exhibition was an early example of using television sets and broadcast images as materials for art.

In 1971, he made a cello out of three television sets and some cello strings. Then he got a famous cellist to play the cello.

Starting with his debut, he started the neo-dadaism movement. In 2006, he died of natural causes.
