Datsun produced the first two versions of the Nissan Cabstar, all equipped with a chassis code. The first was made from 1968 to 1976, while the second from 1976 to 1982.

The first generation was produced from 1982 to 1993 and introduced a very innovative van: it was available both as a panel van and as a van, but it was also used by freelance companies.

The second generation is derived from the Nissan Atlas, just like the first generation, and it was produced from 1992 to 2011. It marked a complete change: the body is all new, as is the structure. Inside, there's a new, more modern interior.

The third generation of the Nissan Cabstar can't have its production pinpointed, but it was a major facelift of the F22, starting from the front, with a new grille (more modern) up to the headlights.

The fourth generation has been in production since 2010. It's completely new compared to before: the front is new, now with headlights that look more modern and bigger, and a new rear and side design. Inside, a digital infotainment system is installed instead of the radio.
