Operation Hannibal, was a naval operation by Nazi Germany to evacuate military personnel and civilians from German held territory in Eastern Europe (like East Prussia and Courland) in early 1945 during the Eastern Front of World War II. this was happening due to the ongoing advances of the Red Army and eastern allies in East Prussia and the Baltic states. the operation is considered to be one of the largest sea evacuations in history.
