Pallas's cat (Otocolobus manul) is also called the manul. It is a small wild cat with a very wide distribution in the grasslands and montane steppes of Central Asia.
It is affected by its habitat getting smaller by being destroyed, with fewer prey, and is also hunted by poachers. It is classified as Near Threatened on the IUCN Red List.
Pallas's cat was first described in 1776 by the German naturalist Peter Simon Pallas.
