Pancreatitis is inflammation of the pancreas. The pancreas is a large organ behind the stomach. It produces digestive enzymes and a number of hormones.
There are two main types, those being acute pancreatitis and chronic pancreatitis. Signs and symptoms of pancreatitis include pain in the abdomen in the upper part (epigastrium), nausea and vomiting. There is also a radiating (goes to) pain in the back which is usually severe.
The most common causes of acute pancreatitis are gallstones and heavy alcohol use.
Fatty foods may cause canine pancreatitis in dogs.
