The Plunket Shield is the national first-class cricket championship of New Zealand. It was launched in 1906 by New Zealand Cricket (NZC). The trophy was donated by William Plunket, who was Governor-General of New Zealand at the time, and named after him. Canterbury won the first tournament in 1906–07. The most successful team has been Auckland, who have won 24 titles, most recently in 2021–22.
