Russell Marion Nelson (September 9, 1924 – September 27, 2025) was the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) from 2018 until his death in 2025. He was a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of the LDS Church. He is also a known cardiothoracic surgeon. He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah.

In January 2018, he became the 17th President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints after the death of Thomas S. Monson. After his death, he was followed by Dallin H. Oaks.

At the time of his death, he was the oldest living apostle in the Church. In July 3, 2015, following the death of President Boyd K. Packer, Nelson became President of the Quorum. Nelson turned 100 on September 9, 2024.

Death

Nelson died on September 27, 2025, at his home in Salt Lake City at the age of 101.
