SV Urfahr is an Austrian football club. It is based in the Urfahr district of Linz, the capital of Upper Austria. The club colours are red and black. SV Urfahr is the third-oldest football club in Upper Austria. They play plays in the eighth-tier 2. Klasse Mitte.
In 1908, a Dutchman stopped in Linz on his way home from Africa. Under the Danube Bridge, he taught young people from Linz and the then independent municipality of Urfahr football. After his departure, the boys went on to form the football teams Linzer Sport-Club, SV Urfahr-Donaukai and FC Nußbaum (Steinmetzplatzl). The Urfahr players Othmar Holzer and Wilhelm Steininger eventually persuaded the landowner Rieseneder to let them play football on his clay pit. The two footballing groups from Urfahr merged in 1908. They did not form an official club, as most of the players were still underage.
In 1912, the club was finally officially established as Sportvereinigung Urfahr. They also practiced other sports alongside football. From 1914 onwards matches were stopped due to the First World War. The matches started again in 1919. From 1922, the club began to recruit more young people. In 1928, SVU won the Upper Austrian championship for the first time. The club went on to win this title twice more, in 1933 and 1937. It also won the Upper Austrian State Cup in 1933, 1934 and 1936. During the Nazi occupation of Austria (1938 to 1945) they played in the Oberdonau district league.
In 1951, the club won the Upper Austrian Cup. It was the first title after fifteen years. 1952 SV Urfahr’s new sports ground on Ferihumerstraße was opened. It is still used today.1953 the club won the 1. Landesliga title and was promoted to the Staatsliga B. They were relegated from the Staatsliga 1954. Between 1963 and 1994 the club had its ups and downs. Between 1998 and 2000 the ground was expanded. In 2002 the club celebrated the 90th anniversary. This year flooding devastated the club’s sports facilities. The club had to play all its home matches away. The loss of matchday revenue left the club in financial difficulties, delaying the renovation of the facilities. t was not until the 2003/04 season that Urfahr was able to use its football pitches again. In the 2013/14 season Urfahr had to use the facilities of ASK Nettingsdorf for the 2013/14 season because their own stadium was flooded again. 2014/15 they were relegated to the 2. Klasse Mitte.
