Scottish Labour (Scottish Gaelic: Pàrtaidh Làbarach na h-Alba) is the part of the Labour Party active in Scotland. It promotes social democracy, British unionism and devolution. The party has been led by Anas Sarwar since 2021.
For much of the 20th century and into the 21st, Labour dominated Scottish politics, emerging as the largest party at every general election from 1964 to 2010, and the first two Scottish parliament elections in 1999 and 2003. The party led the Scottish Government (then known as the Scottish Executive) in a coalition with the Liberal Democrats from 1999 to 2007.
In the 2015 general election, Labour collapsed in Scotland and won just one Scottish seat in the House of Commons, losing most of its seats to the Scottish National Party. In the 2016 Scottish Parliament election, the party fell from 37 to 24 seats and became the third-largest party behind the SNP and Scottish Conservatives. The continued its decline in the 2021 Scottish Parliament election, falling from 24 to 22 seats.In the 2024 general election, Labour returned to dominance in Scotland, winning 37 of the 57 Scottish seatsin the House of Commons. However in the 2026 Scottish Parliament election, the party saw its worst-ever result in a devolved election, winning just 17 seats.
