Snap music (also known as ringtone rap or snap rap) is a subgenre of hip hop music that was formed in the early 2000s in the southern United States. It is derived from crunk. Instruments commonly use in the genre include an 808 bass drum, hi-hat, bass, snapping, a main groove and a vocal track. Popular snap artists include D4L, Dem Franchize Boys, Gucci Mane, Rick Ross, Soulja Boy, Bow Wow, E-40 and K-Rab.
