Plot

Trixie Lee takes time off from her job as a Hollywood hat-check girl to become a pilot. She and her partner, Babe Dugan, enter an air race from Los Angeles to Cleveland. However, their plane crashes because of an oil leak.

Navy pilot Tex Price helps repair their plane. Meanwhile, wealthy businessman T. P. Lester supports his daughter Gerry, who wants to compete in the Powder Puff air race. Gerry is Tex's former girlfriend.

Trixie wants to win both the race and Tex's love. She and Babe try to discourage Gerry and stop her from winning. During the race, Gerry's better plane is in first place, but Gerry pretends that her engine has failed so that Trixie can win.

Trixie realizes that she was wrong about Gerry. She gives up her relationship with Tex, allowing him and Gerry to get back together.
