Toad is a fictional character appearing in Marvel Comics. His real name is Mortimer "Mort" Teg. He is best known as a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants and a frequent adversary of the X-Men.
Created by writer Stan Lee and artist/co-writer Jack Kirby, he first appeared in The X-Men #4 (March 1964).
Toad was originally a human named Mortimer Teg who was transformed into a mutant after exposure to a mutagenic substance. Toad has a frog-like appearance with green skin, a long tongue, and a slimy, amphibian look. He became associated with Magneto and joined the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants, often fighting the X-Men.
Toad has enhanced agility, leaping ability, and a prehensile tongue that he can use as a weapon or tool. He is skilled in hand-to-hand combat and is often depicted as a loyal, albeit sometimes cowardly, member of villainous teams.
Since his inception, the character has appeared in numerous media adaptations, such as television series, movies, and video games. Ray Park played a significantly different version of Toad in 2000's X-Men movie, with aspects of his portrayal being incorporated into the comic book version. A younger Toad appeared in the movie X-Men: Days of Future Past, played by Evan Jonigkeit, and an alternative version of the same character appears in Deadpool & Wolverine, played by Daniel Ramos.
