Vernon is a small town in Tooele County, in the U.S. state of Utah, in the United States. About 250 people live there. The town is about 36 miles (58 km) south of the city of Tooele.
White settlers came to the Vernon area in April 1862. One of the first settlers was a man named Joseph Vernon, and the town is most likely named after him. Joseph Vernon was later killed by a local Native American during the early years of the settlement.
The town grew as a small farming and ranching community. The people there raised cattle, grew crops, and made hay (dried grass used to feed farm animals in winter).
Vernon covers about 8.1 square miles (21 square kilometres), almost all of it land. Because it is a small town spread over a large area, very few people live on each square mile. This makes it a quiet, rural place.
The town lies in a wide valley in western Utah, with dry land and mountains nearby.
