White House State Ballroom

East Wing

The White House State Ballroom is part of a planned expansion of the White House complex in Washington, D.C., which is meant to replace the former East Wing, which was demolished on October 21, 2025 for this reason. Announced on July 31, 2025, the purpose of the 90,000-square-foot (8,360 m2) expansion is to add a venue with a larger seating capacity of 999 people, than the East Room inside the main building of the White House, where formal events such as state dinners are held. Construction of the site started in September 2025.

The ballroom was originally proposed by President Donald Trump. The project will be privately funded by Trump himself, by other rich donors and by private companies, with an estimated cost of $250 million. The construction is scheduled to completed before the end of Trump's presidential term in 2029.

The project has been criticized for the demolition of the entire East Wing, for not respecting preservation laws, for not respecting U.S. laws by not seeking the approval of U.S. Congress for the project, as well as for the funding, design and large size of the new building.
