Peroxisomal bifunctional enzyme is an enzyme that in humans is encoded by the gene EHHADH. This is a bifunctional enzyme and is one of the four enzymes of the peroxisomal beta-oxidation pathway. Mutations of the gene are a cause of peroxisomal disorders such as Zellweger syndrome.
Peroxisomal bifunctional enzyme is able to act as a Enoyl-CoA hydratase which is involved in the breakdown of fatty acids in the peroxisomes.
