'Kind of bearing in mind Ringo's sense of humour, I thought that I would just kind of go for something wacky and it will be a risk, but he'll either love it or hate it,' says Garrard, who is from London but moved to Vancouver three years ago after falling in love with the city during a family vacation. A devoted Beatles fan, Garrard, 26, learned about the video contest from the band's Facebook page in early March just five days before the deadline.
Trinity has now travelled the globe performing live shows for adoring audiences. Last year, she took on her first major acting role in the horror movie Slay, which, she says with a laugh, is a little bit like the hit 1994 Australian film The Adventures Of Priscilla, Queen Of The Desert – but with vampires. The spoof horror flick sees four drag queens stuck in a biker bar where they team up with the redneck patrons to fight off vampires. 'When I got this opportunity to film Slay with Tubi, I was so grateful because the writer and director [Jem Garrard] is a queer person; they're non-binary, so it was written authentically from the perspective of someone in our community," she explains.
Garrard follows up their previous Tubi original, the unfunny vampires-vs.-drag queen horror comedy 'Slay,' with a far more thrilling battle of wits, here between the have-a-lots and the have-nots. What could have been a heavy-handed 96-minute metaphor is instead a tight "Parasite"-aspiring thriller that's buoyed by terrific performances from Chouler (charming and sinister) and Ngema (fearless and calculating). For fans of home invasion films, this one comes with a nifty twist: The intruders are the good guys.
Slasher movie lore dictates that hard-partying characters always meet a grisly end at the point of a very sharp knife. [...] The new Tubi movie Buzzkill burns that playbook. [...] To play the character, Agudong had to throw any sense of self-consciousness out the window and embrace the blood-soaked chaos. 'I remember [director] Jem Garrard coming up after the first take and seeing me play Nora for the first time, and they said, 'You're taking yourself too seriously. I want Siena to have fun,' the 22-year-old recalls. 'And in the next take, it felt kind of magical because I felt like I was given permission to be a kid all over again – to forget all of the rules that I was taught, and just play.'
