Momentum Cyber is an American investment bank and advisory firm that focuses on the cybersecurity industry. It advises cybersecurity companies, investors and acquirers on mergers and acquisitions, and publishes research on cybersecurity dealmaking. It began operating under its current name in January 2018, having previously been Momentum Partners. The firm was based in San Francisco at first and, as of 2026, is headquartered in Austin, Texas.
History
Momentum Cyber launched in January 2018 as a cybersecurity-focused advisory firm, succeeding the technology advisory firm Momentum Partners. At launch it was based in San Francisco, with Michael Tedesco and Eric McAlpine as managing partners. CRN reported that, unlike broader technology advisers, the firm would work only in cybersecurity.
Dave DeWalt, a former chief executive of McAfee, was named chairman when the firm launched. In March 2021, Dino Boukouris and Keith Skirbe were promoted to managing director. McAlpine is now the firm's chief executive.
Transactions
Deals in which Momentum Cyber has acted as an adviser include:
The February 2021 acquisition of a majority stake in Herjavec Group by funds advised by Apax, where Momentum Cyber was financial adviser to Herjavec Group.
Momentum Cyber's research covers cybersecurity mergers, acquisitions and financing, and its figures have been used by other publications. Its publications include the Cybersecurity Almanac, periodic Cybersecurity Market Review reports on transactions and investment, and CYBERscape, a market map that groups companies by sub-sector.
In July 2026, both Axios and The Wall Street Journal cited the firm's mid-year review in reporting on first-half cybersecurity M&A activity.
