N Rashed Chowdhury (Bengali: এন রাশেদ চৌধুরী) is a Bangladeshi filmmaker, director, producer. He directed the feature film Chandrabati Kotha (The Tales of Chandrabati), which received a Government of Bangladesh National Filmmaking Grant and premiered at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival. He is a co-founder and director of Dhaka DocLab and served as director of the Bangladesh International Short and Independent Film Festival, Dhaka.

Early life and education

Chowdhury joined the Bangladesh Short Film Forum during high school in the early 1990s. He also participated in the Film Society Movement of Bangladesh.

Career

Chowdhury served as President of the Bangladesh Short Film Forum and directed the Bangladesh International Short and Independent Film Festival, twice. He led the festival committee for its 15th edition in 2019. In 2017, he co-founded Dhaka DocLab, a South Asian documentary film market, where he works as a director and workshop mentor.

He served as executive producer for the 2014 film Meghmallar, directed by Zahidur Rahim Anjan.

His debut feature, Chandrabati Kotha (The Tales of Chandrabati), received a Government of Bangladesh National Grant for 2014–2015. Chowdhury wrote the screenplay, which focuses on 16th-century Bengali poet Chandrabati. Filming took place over two years across Mymensingh, Netrokona, and Kishoreganj. It premiered at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival in 2019 and was released in Bangladesh in 2021.

His second feature film, Shokhi Rongomala (also spelled Sokhi Rongomala), is based on Shaheen Akhtar's novel set in 18th-century Noakhali, starring Nazifa Tushi.

From October to December 2020, Chowdhury was a virtual resident at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien in Berlin.
