Writing biographies

When writing biographies of people, stick to verifiable facts (see Wikipedia:Verifiability) and avoid opinions. A typical biography might include the following sections

  1. A lead paragraph (or lede) summarising the subject
  2.  Education and early life - a section summarising their education and early life, for example birthplace, high school and university etc
  3. Research and Career - what research are they known for? What have they done during their career?
  4. An openly licensed portrait of the subject or their work if you can upload one (see w.wiki/V5a) or find one already published by searching commons.wikimedia.org
  5. Publications - list some key publications and citations that support the statements of fact you have made

Women in Red

Women in red are a group of editors of all genders from around the world tackling systemic gender bias on Wikipedia by turning red links blue. If you haven't already, please consider joining them.

The Women in Red project womeninred.org maintain lists of biographies of notable women that do not have biographies on Wikipedia yet, for example:

Please give us feedback

This is the first session that we've run, please give us feedback afterwards on how we can improve (alongside what went well)
