L'Alfred è un catamarano appartenente alla compagnia di navigazione scozzese Pentland Ferries, in noleggio alla connazionale Caledonian Macbrayne.

Servizio

Il catamarano, commissionato dalla Pentland Ferries al cantiere navale specializzato Strategic Marine di Vũng Tàu, in Vietnam, per un costo totale di 14,5 milioni di sterline, è stato varato il 22 febbraio 2019 con il nome di Alfred e consegnato il 29 agosto successivo alla compagnia britannica, dalla quale è stato trasferito dal 29 agosto al 9 ottobre dall'Asia a St Margaret's Hope, nelle Isole Orcadi, che il 1º novembre ha iniziato a collegare a Gills Bay, sulla costa della contea di Caithness, affiancando il Pentalina. Negli anni seguenti, il catamarano ha continuato a servire il collegamento da e per South Ronaldsay, rimanendo tuttavia vittima di un incidente appena tre anni dopo, il 5 luglio 2022, giorno in cui si è incagliato durante la navigazione nei pressi di Swona a causa di un errore del comandante, riportando notevoli danni alla sezione prodiera dello scafo, che ne hanno costretto la momentanea messa fuori servizio fino al 18 luglio.

Il 21 marzo 2023, dopo circa quattro anni di servizio alle Isole Orcadi, il catamarano è stato noleggiato alla Caledonian Macbrayne, inizialmente per nove mesi, in sostituzione del Pentalina, dalla quale è stato immesso il 12 maggio nei collegamenti tra Ardrossan e Brodick, in supporto e sostituzione delle unità della compagnia noleggiatrice, operando nei mesi seguenti saltuariamente anche tra Tarbert, Lochmaddy e Uig, o tra Troon e Brodick, dove opera stabilmente dal 29 marzo 2024.
