Mohamad er en variant og alternativ transkripsjon av det arabiske navnet Muhammad (محمد). Det stammer fra den semittiske rota ḥ‑m‑d (حمد) som betyr «å prise» eller «rose». Navneformen er et passivt partisipp og betyr derfor «den lovpriste», «prisverdig» eller «verdig til ros».
