Rhyncolus er en slekt av biller i familien snutebiller (Curculionidae). De lever i død ved. De ligner på barkbiller (Scolytinae), som også er deres nærmeste slektninger.

Utseende

Små (gjerne 2 – 5 mm), sylindriske biller, brunlige eller svarte, blanke uten påfallende hår eller skjell, sterkt punkterte. Med sine avlange, sylindriske kropper, kraftige bein of korte snuter ligner denne gruppen mye på barkbiller. Hodet er forholdsvis stort og bredt, snuten ganske kort til middels lang. Antennene er knebøyde og forholdsvis korte. Brystskjoldet (pronotum) er omtrent så langt som bredt, og så bredt som dekkvingene. Sidene er avrundede, og oversiden er dekket av grove, men grunne punktgroper. Dekkvingene er avlange og parallellsidige med markerte punktrekker. Beina er ganske korte og kraftige, en tilpasning til å bevege seg i ganger i treet.

Levevis

Billene lever i død ved av ulike treslag. Noen arter kan også forekomme i bygningstømmer, men dette er da infisert av sopp. Slekten Rhyncolus lever på døde røtter av bartrær, og finnes sjelden over bakkenivå.

Utbredelse

Slekten er hovedsakelig utbredt i Holarktis, men enkelte arter forekommer i andre verdensdeler.
