Płyta osiągnęła 164. miejsce na liście Top 200 amerykańskiego tygodnika "Billboard". W 1989 r. magazyn "Spin" uznał Swordfishtrombones drugim najlepszym albumem w historii natomiast magazyn Q przyznał 36. miejsce wśród najlepszych albumów lat osiemdziesiątych.
