Darold Durard Brown Ferguson Jr. (born October 20, 1988), known professionally as Ferg (formerly A$AP Ferg), is an American rapper and designer from Harlem, New York City. He is a prominent member of the hip-hop collective A$AP Mob, from which he adopted his original moniker.
Ferguson was born in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood of Harlem. His father, Darold Ferguson, owned a boutique that printed shirts and created logos for Bad Boy Records and Uptown Records. Ferg originally attended art school with aspirations of becoming a fashion designer, launching his high-end belt line, Devoni, in 2005.
After being pushed to rap by his high school friend A$AP Rocky, Ferg rose to prominence with the 2012 single "Work." He released his debut studio album, Trap Lord, in August 2013, which debuted at number nine on the Billboard 200 and featured the hit single "Shabba."[source?]
Ferg's second album, Always Strive and Prosper (2016), reached number eight on the Billboard 200. In 2017, his single "Plain Jane" from the mixtape Still Striving became his highest-charting solo track, eventually being certified 5× Platinum by the RIAA.[source?]
In 2021, Ferg signed a management deal with Roc Nation. Following years of rumors regarding his departure from A$AP Mob,[source?] he officially transitioned to the mononym Ferg.
