All Dogs Go to Heaven is a 1989 American British Irish animated movie directed by Don Bluth, starring Burt Reynolds, and Dom DeLuise.
In 1939 New Orleans, Charlie B. Barkin escapes the dog pound with his friend Itchy Itchiford and returns to their casino boat. His business partner, Carface Caruthers, had sent him to the pound to take control of the business. Carface kills Charlie by sending a car down a hill, but Charlie is sent to Heaven despite his selfish life. There, Annabelle explains that all dogs go to Heaven. Charlie steals a watch that represents his life and returns to Earth, but Annabelle warns him that he can never return to Heaven.
Charlie and Itchy start a rival business and discover that Carface is using Anne-Marie, an orphan who can talk to animals, to win bets. Charlie rescues her but also uses her ability for gambling. He and Itchy build a successful casino in a junkyard. Anne-Marie becomes angry when she learns that Charlie has been using her and stole a wallet from a couple who wanted to adopt her.
Carface later destroys Charlie's casino and kidnaps Anne-Marie. Charlie follows them and escapes with her after meeting King Gator, a giant alligator who helps them. Anne-Marie later overhears Charlie telling Itchy that he plans to abandon her at an orphanage and runs away. Carface captures her again, and Charlie follows them to his casino. During the fight, an oil fire breaks out and King Gator kills Carface.
Charlie and Anne-Marie fall into the water, along with Charlie's life watch. Unable to save both her and the watch, Charlie chooses Anne-Marie and pushes her to safety, dying as the watch stops. Anne-Marie is later adopted by Kate and Harold, who also take in Itchy. Because Charlie sacrificed himself to save Anne-Marie, he is allowed back into Heaven and says goodbye to her before returning. In a mid-credits scene, Carface arrives in Heaven and vows revenge on King Gator.
The movie has a sequel, All Dogs Go To Heaven 2.
