Amatsukami

In Shinto Amatsukami (Japanese: 天津神, 天つ神; 'Kami of heaven') are the gods of the heavens. They were born in or live in Takamagahara.

Amatsukami is one of the three types of kami. The other types are Kunitsukami (国津神, 国つ神) or earth gods, and yaoyorozu-no-kami (八百万の神) or minor gods.: 56

Many myths in the Nihon Shoki and the Kojiki are about Amatsukami and Kunitsukami fighting.

In the time of Ninigi the Amatsukami took control of the land from the Kunitsukami. This is called the kuni-yuzuri [en].

Susanoo-no-Mikoto was born in Takamagahara, but since he was kicked out, he is a Kunitsukami. Ōkuninushi and his other descendants are also Kunitsukami.
