History

Belpre was created in 1879. It was incorporated in 1906. Belpre's name came from the French word "belle prairie" for "beautiful meadow".

The first post office in Belpre was created in 1879.

Geography

Belpre is at 37°57′2″N 99°5′59″W / 37.95056°N 99.09972°W / 37.95056; -99.09972 (37.950669, -99.099822). The United States Census Bureau says that the city has a total area of 0.41 square miles (1.06 km2). All of it is land.

Climate

Belpre has hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters. The Köppen Climate Classification system says that Belpre has a humid subtropical climate, abbreviated "Cfa" on climate maps.
