The Congress of the Republic (Spanish: Congreso de la República) is the bicameral body which carries legislative power in Peru. Since the President of Peru can be removed by Congress without cause, this makes the legislature more powerful than the executive branch.
Congress had nearly complete control of Peru's government following a ruling in February 2023.
In March 2024, 91 out of 130 members of Congress voted to bring back the Senate with the general election of 2026. The Senate will have 60 members each serving a five-year term. The lower chamber will be the Chamber of Deputies.
