Dimethyldichlorosilane, also abbreviated DMDCS, is a chemical compound made of silicon, chlorine, and organic methyl groups. It has the chemical formula Si(CH3)2Cl2. It is the monomer used in most silicones, making it one of the most important organosilicon compounds.
DMDCS is the main product of the direct process of making organosilanes. Methyl chloride reacts with silicon to make a mixture of DMDCS and related chemicals, which are then separated by fractional distillation.
