Elizabethan literature refers to books written during the rule of Queen Elizabeth I (1558โ€“1603). It is one of the greatest ages of English literature. New forms of poetry appeared during this period, such as the sonnet, the Spenserian stanza, and dramatic blank verse; as well as prose, including pamphlets, and the first English novels.

The main writers include William Shakespeare, Edmund Spenser, Christopher Marlowe, Richard Hooker, Ben Jonson, Philip Sidney and Thomas Kyd.
