Engen

Engen (延元) was a Japanese era name (年号, nengō; lit. year name) of the Southern Court during the Nanboku-chō period after Kemmu and before Kōkoku. This period started in February 1336 and ended in April 1340. The monarchs during this time were Emperor Go-Daigo (後醍醐天皇, Go-Daigo-tennō) and Emperor Go-Murakami (後村上天皇, Go-Murakami-tennō). The Northern Court pretender in Kyoto was Emperor Kōmyō (光明天皇, Kōmyō-tennō).
