Ihringen

Location

Ihringen is located west of Freiburg im Breisgau, on the southern slopes of the Kaiserstuhl. It is known for its wine-growing. The Totenkopf, the highest point of the Kaiserstuhl, is located near Ihringen.

Climate

Because of its protected location on the Kaiserstuhl, many hours of sunshine, and mild winters with few frost days, Ihringen has an average yearly temperature of about 12 °C. It is one of the warmest places in Germany. The climate is favorable for viticulture. Almond trees, several types of palms, cactuses, and citrus and other warm-climate fruits can grow in the area. Animals such as the European mantis, European green lizard, and European bee-eater can also be found there.

The climate is temperate with Mediterranean and subtropical influences. Under the Köppen climate classification, Ihringen has an oceanic climate (Cfb), with enough rainfall throughout the year. Average temperatures in July and August are just below 22 °C.
