The Mazda Bongo is a minivan produced by Mazda from 1966.
In 1966, Mazda introduced a new van with either an 800cc or 1000cc engine, delivering 48 hp and a top speed of 75 km/h. A few years later, seatbelts were introduced.
With the introduction of the new model, Mazda introduced the pickup version. The 1.0 engine was replaced by a more powerful 2.2 diesel.
In 1983, the 1.8-liter petrol engine was replaced by a 2.0-liter diesel. Changes included a new front end and interior. It underwent two updates.
In 1999, a proposal was made to produce a completely new minivan; the engines remained true to the previous generation, but a version with dual sliding doors was now also available.
In 2020, the fifth generation, based on the Daihatsu Gran Max, was introduced. In Japan, it features the optional Smart Assist system (a collision prevention system).
