OpenMetal, Inc.

OpenMetal is an American cloud computing and infrastructure company that provides infrastructure as a service (IaaS), including hosted private cloud, bare-metal servers, storage infrastructure, and graphics processing unit (GPU) servers. Its cloud platform uses the open-source OpenStack and Ceph technologies.

History

OpenMetal originated from cloud infrastructure developed by InMotion Hosting. The project was subsequently developed into OpenMetal as an infrastructure-as-a-service business focused on OpenStack-based private cloud infrastructure.

The company is headquartered in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Its infrastructure is available in four regions: Ashburn, Virginia; Los Angeles, California; Amsterdam, Netherlands; and Singapore.

Services

OpenMetal provides hosted private clouds running on dedicated hardware. Its private-cloud environment is based on OpenStack, with Ceph used for storage.

The company's infrastructure offerings also include dedicated bare-metal servers and GPU servers and clusters. In April 2025, Data Center Dynamics reported that OpenMetal had introduced dedicated GPU infrastructure using Nvidia H100 and A100 GPUs for artificial intelligence, machine learning, and high-performance computing workloads.

Awards and recognition

In 2023, OpenMetal's On-Demand Private Cloud won the Cloud Infrastructure category at the DeveloperWeek CloudX Awards.

OpenMetal was also one of ten nominees for the OpenInfra Foundation's 2023 Superuser Awards.
