"Rude Boy" is a hit single sung by Barbadian recording artist Rihanna. released as a single on February 9, 2010. The song is from her fourth studio album, Rated R (2009). It combines dancehall and reggae. The song received mixed reviews. It spent five weeks at number one on Billboard Hot 100 in the United States. It also topped charts in Australia and Israel. It reached number two in the UK and number seven on the Canadian Hot 100. It peaked within the top ten of most international charts. Rihanna has most recently performed the song on her Anti World Tour.

Music Video

The clip was directed by Melina Matsoukas filmed in January 2010 in Hollywood in Los Angeles, who previously directed the video for "Hard". The music video premiered on February 10, 2010 on VEVO. Rihanna said the video for "Rude Boy" is completely different from her previous videos; "a lot of my videos are really dark, touchy, and difficult," and "this one goes back to my roots.".

In the video, Rihanna performs dancehall with the dancers and plays the drums. The singer wears seven costumes, from a leopard print suit, through zebras, to a multicolored skirt. The music video is a mix of reggae colors with colorful 90s motifs.

The video has some similarities to "Boyz M.I.I.. The director of the video said that "both videos are great" and that they all really draw inspiration from a place where there's always something different.
