Springvale station is a railway station in the south-eastern suburb of Springvale, in the city of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. This station has Pakenham and Cranbourne line trains. The lines are part of the Melbourne rail network. The station is located in myki Zone 2.

Springvale first opened on 1 September 1880. The current station started operating in 2014.

History

The station was named after the Spring Vale Hotel. The hotel's name was inspired by the springs near here. The springs were used by people travelling between Melbourne and Dandenong.

On 7 June 1996, Springvale was upgraded to a premium station. The station once opened as Spring Vale, but the Spring and the Vale were merged to become Springvale on 29 February 1972.

There used to be a branch line here. The branch line was to a station in Spring Vale Cemetery (regular english article). In 1952, the line was removed. A short section of tracks to the line became a train siding. In August 2008, all things to the siding was removed.

In 2013, the Springvale Road level crossing next to the station was planned to be removed. A new Springvale station was constructed below ground. One year later, the level crossing was pulled down and the new Springvale station was opened.

Note: Even though this station was rebuilt and the level crossing removed, this station and Springvale Road was not part of the Level Crossing Removal Project [en]. This was completed in 2014 but the project started just one year later in 2015.
