Tetrahedral molecular geometry is a type of molecular geometry. Molecules with this shape have one middle atom and four other atoms around it, making the corners of a tetrahedron (triangular pyramid). In AXE notation, tetrahedral geometry is written AX4.
Tetrahedral geometry is related to trigonal and bent geometry. Replacing one atom of a tetrahedral molecule with a lone pair gives a trigonal pyramidal molecule, and replacing two gives a bent molecule.
