Western pattern diet

The Western pattern diet, also called standard American diet, is a modern eating pattern. In the Western diet like fast food, processed meat, red meat, butter, fried foods, high-fat dairy products, refined grains, high fructose corn syrup and certain sugary drinks is common. The modern Western diet came by way of fundamental lifestyle changes after the Neolithic and Industrial Revolutions.

The opposite is a healthy diet. Healthy diets have higher servings of fruit, nuts, fish, poultry and vegetables.

A Western pattern diet is associated with an increased risk of being overweight or obese and diabetes mellitus.
