ADS 48 is a binary system in the constellation of Andromeda .
The components have apparent visual magnitudes of 8.826 and 8.995. Component A is a K-type main-sequence star , while component B is an M-type main-sequence star (red dwarf). The stars are orbiting with a period of 550 years and a separation of 74 AU .
Multiple stars lie close to ADS 48 in the line of sight, and have been considered components C, D and E of the system, but are background objects. ADS 48 F (Gliese 2 ) is at a similar distance from the pair and share similar proper motions , but is moving faster than the escape velocity of the pair and thus is not gravitationally bound. The existence of an unseen companion of 0.05 M ☉ has also been proposed, but this was refuted.
