Guanine nucleotide-binding protein G(o) subunit alpha is a protein that in humans is encoded by the GNAO1 gene. This protein is part of the Gi/o family of G-proteins, which function by inhibiting adenylyl cyclase as part of G protein-coupled receptor signaling.
Mutations in this gene have been shown to cause epileptic encephalopathy.
