The HomeView is a smart speaker developed by Apple. Part of the Apple Home family, it was announced on October 13, 2026, alongside the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and the HomePod Mini 2. It is Apple's first smart speaker to feature a graphical user interface. The device acts as a smart display, as well as a home hub to control Apple Home accessories. The HomeView's software features a limited selection of apps and voice control with Siri AI. It will be released on November 13, 2026.

History

Development

Reports of an Apple smart home hub began circulating in late 2024, well before its official unveiling. Early rumors suggested that the device would be a HomePod with a built-in screen and Apple Intelligence. Speculation surrounding a touchscreen-equipped HomePod intensified in 2025, following the discovery of references to the device in beta versions of iOS 26. In January 2026, The Information reported early details including, a small display and a robotic swiveling base, and that the product would be released in early 2026. Reports later in March suggest that the product would not launch until late 2026. Before its official announcement, the device was referred to by several rumored names, including "HomePad", "Smart Home Hub", "HomePod Touch", and "HomeView", the last of which became its official name. References to the rumored HomePod product with a touch screen would later be revealed during the beta cycle of macOS Tahoe.

In October 2026, leaker pdfu reported that Apple would launch the HomeView in four different colors (Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink), with setup process for the home hub also reported, and that the HomeView was to be produced in a countertop version with a metal speaker base, and a version that its wall-mounted with a flat, square base. MacRumors reported that Apple could have considered using the "homeOS" moniker for its smart home hub operating system after ghost companies registered related trademarks, but opted for the branding "HomeView software" instead.

Launch

On September 30, 2026, Bloomberg journalist Mark Gurman reported that Apple planned to introduce several smart home products on October 13, including a new smart home hub then rumored to be called "HomePad", and that the device would have an iMac G4 design. Additional reports suggested that the device would feature a six-inch display with rounded corners, and a profile approximately as thick as an iPhone.

In October 2026, Apple Stores received boxes containing stickers that warned people not to open until October 8. According to the reports, they appear to have "visual merchandise" that relate to upcoming products inside, including the smart home hub. An Apple event with the tagline "Welcome home" showcased the HomeView alongside the Apple TV 4K (4th generation) and the HomePod Mini 2 on October 13, 2026. Additionally, in the event, it was revealed that the European Union would have a late launch due to restrictions on Siri AI.

Overview

The HomeView features a seven-inch display in an aluminum case. The countertop model has a base and stand that are similar to the iMac G4. The device has a single front-facing camera and is powered using USB-C without a battery. While the countertop version includes a 30 W USB-C power adapter, the wall-mounted version does not include the power adapter, which must be purchased separately. The wall-mounted option has mounting options for the device to be powered by USB-C, as well as by AC and PoE power, all of which are Schneider Electric branded. The countertop version is available in four standard color options: Silver, Space Gray, Starlight, and Rose Pink, while the wall-mounted version is available in Silver and Space Gray.

Specifications

Design

The HomeView features a seven-inch touchscreen equipped with True Tone technology, supporting an automatic brightness range from 500 nits for sunlit environments down to 0.3 nits for low-light nightstand use. The interface automatically adjusts the amount of information displayed based on the user's proximity. It is built with an aluminum housing attached to a domed speaker base via a stainless steel hinge that allows for smooth angle adjustments, similar to the iMac G4.

Hardware

The HomeView uses the A18 chip with TSMC's 3 nm process.

The HomeView features built-in temperature and humidity sensors, alongside an ambient light sensor and accelerometer.

Operating system

The HomeView runs an operating system called HomeView software, a forked version of iOS and iPadOS.[citation needed] The HomeView will ship with HomeView software 27.2 at launch. The operating system does not have the App Store, but media from third-party apps can be streamed from an iPhone via CarPlay.

Technical specifications

The HomeView software full integration with personal context features requires a paired iPhone running iOS 27.2 or later, or an iPad running iPadOS 27.2 or later.

Reception

Several critics compared the wall-mounted HomeView to a "giant Apple Watch" or a "battery-less iPad". Marques Brownlee said he's "not convinced" and criticized the high price, lack of an App Store and limited facial recognition, believing the device is "a skip for most people".
