![]() This is a list of Wikimedia events held at the British Library. This includes both community-oriented events targeted at Wikipedians as well as practical workshops and talks. Contact Andrew Gray for details. Upcoming8 October 2016 Europeana Sounds edit-a-thon at the British Library PastMost of these were a reasonably standard 2-4 hour workshop with a talk and discussion followed by some hands-on practical experience of editing Wikipedia; the target audience was those new to Wikipedia but willing to play around with it. Numbers of attendees below are those who actually attended, rather than those booked on the course; numbers aren't given for the sessions which were just talks. As of April 2013, around 400 people have attended one of the practical sessions. 20152012-132011When: 14-15 January 2011 This Edit-athon is an event aimed at sharing the expertise of real-world cultural institutions with our wiki-expertise. We were able to access the resources of the British Library, guided by the expertise of its curators, with the joint aim of improving the content on Wikipedia that is relevant to the British Library's collections. An hour-long tour of the Evolving English exhibition was given at 11.30 on Friday by one of the curators, Jonnie Robinson, who is an expert in accents and dialects. Guided tours of the Library building were given on Saturday at 10.30 and 15.00 (10 people per tour). When: 4 June 2011 The aim of the event was to combine the expertise of the public, Wikipedians and the Library's curators to improve Wikipedia's coverage of the literary individuals and collections related to the British Library. During the event there were unique opportunities to view, up close, interesting items from the English & Drama collections. In addition to this, one of the curators responsible for the forthcoming Science Fiction exhibition Out of this World was on hand to take participants on guided tours of the exhibition. When: 24 June 2011 GLAMcamp London is a GLAM set of workshops and presentations for Wikimedians active in outreach for UK cultural institutions. The aim of this event was to establish a UK network of GLAM related e-volunteers. Attendees also included key representatives of institutions who have a strong relationship with Wikimedia as well as prospective GLAM Ambassadors. |
