The Graphics Lab is a project to improve the graphical content of the Wikimedia projects. Requests for image improvements can be added to the workshop pages: Illustrations, Photographs and Maps. For questions or suggestions one can use the talk pages: Talk:Graphics Lab, Talk:Illustrations, Talk:Photographs and Talk:Maps.
This specific page is the requests page for the photography workshop. Anyone can make a request for a photograph to be improved for a Wikipedia article. The standard format for making a request is shown below, along with general advice, and should be followed.

Advice to requesters

All requests:

  • Please make sure your request is "legitimate" by copyright. If the image(s) are in the public domain or freely licensed, you are fine. If the image(s) are "Fair use", there are only certain things we can do with them without falling afoul of Wikipedia's fair-use policies.
    • If you are requesting assistance with a copyright or fair-use image, don't display it on this page; place {{GLNF|Example.png|caption|align=left}} to create a link to it. Do not add the File: extension. Our fair-use policy does not allow displaying fair-use images out of their articles on ANY account.
  • Please check back regularly to see if progress has been made or if any additional questions need to be answered before the request can be completed.
  • If a request is done to your satisfaction, please mark it with {{resolved}}.

SVG requests:

  • Make sure your request can actually BE vectorized. Note that vector drawings are not suitable for certain applications. We generally use SVG format for icons, logos, drawings, maps, flags, and such. Certain things, photographs especially, are totally impossible to vectorize.
  • Per our non-free content policy, vectorization of copyrighted images is not permitted. If a vectorized non-free image is desired, seek out such an image from the copyright holder.

Extract still photos from video

Silent Parade
Request
I'm getting read to nominate English WP article Silent Parade for FA class, but I'm having a hard time finding a decent free-use image to use for the top infobox (the image in the InfoBox now is probably not satisfactory).
However, there is a free-use newsreel (movie) at File:Negroes' Protest a Silent Parade 1917.webm. That movie was made and published in 1917, so has no copyright issues. Could someone extract a few still pics from the movie? Best would be pictures that show a large number of people; perhaps with some of of the posters included (words should be legible). Maybe 3 to 5 pics selected from various points in the movie.
No need for you to crop the pics, or to adjust the pics for sharpness or contrast, etc,.... I can do that. Also, I am happy to do the work of uploading to Wiki Commons. Thanks! Noleander (talk) 18:21, 17 April 2025 (UTC)-- Noleander (talk) 19:54, 17 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Watermarks in a 1928 photo

Article(s)
Santi Romano
Request
I'd like to remove the watermarks from this photo: both the "Istituto Luce" lettering superimposed over the image and the logo in the bottom right-hand corner. I had copyright concerns and asked for advice on WP:IMAGEHELP: see this discussion. Apparently there's no copyright and the watermarks are free to remove. Thanks for your help! -- Gitz (talk) (contribs) 08:29, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Adding to my request: would it be possible to do the same with this image? Its copyright status should be identical and I could upload it on Commons now or, better, once the watermarks are removed. Gitz (talk) (contribs) 08:36, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Done - Reduced the newsprint dot texture pattern, sharpened & removed dust/scratches. Not really able to improve much further as not much to work with originally! - Regards, Liandrei (talk) 01:30, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you! A decided improvement. You have made bricks without straw remarkably successfully. Tim riley talk 13:40, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
