Requests for assessment
Editors can self-assess articles against the five B-class criteria(FAQ) up to and including C-Class. If you have made significant improvements to an article against one or more of B-class criteria and would like an outside opinion on a new rating for it, please feel free to list it below, specifying which criteria you have worked on. If you feel unable to assess against one or more of the B-class criteria, please say so when posting. Requests for formal A-Class review should be made at the review department. Please consider entering articles you have improved in the military history article writing contest.
Experienced assessors are encouraged to take a look at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Military history/Coordinators#AutoCheck report for September and check a few of ≈ B-Class assessments. Feel free to downgrade them if you consider they don't meet one or more the criteria. Please also delete any that you have checked. See also Wikipedia:WikiProject Spaceflight/Assessment, whose articles often overlap with military history topics.

- Portuguese conquest of Hormuz Expanded by me. Wareno (talk) 00:55, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- The article looks good for B Class except that the lead (introduction) is too short for B-class, and especially for such a detailed article. Please expand the lead. See Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Academy/Writing an effective article introduction and Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lead section for more information. Please post a reply here when this is done so the assessment can be finished at B class. Then I think a good article review would be appropriate. But note that the requests for good article assessments are quite backed up. See Wikipedia:Good article nominations if you have not submitted one before and are interested in pursuing a review at that level. Thanks Donner60 (talk) 07:32, 23 July 2026 (UTC)
- I have made the changes you @Donner60 and @Hawkeye7 have requested and hoping the article is now fit for B Class. Wareno (talk) 19:01, 29 July 2026 (UTC)
- James-Baillie Fraser (1825) generates a warning that the book is too old for an ISBN. Consider using the form <surname, given names> for the References and moving all the book references into that section. Also: Who is Fraser (fn 2)? Hawkeye7 (discuss) 22:47, 26 July 2026 (UTC)
- @Wareno: Is Fraser 1828 (fn 2) or 1825? What is Brás 1875 (fn 22)? Is it Earle & Villers 1990 or Earle & Villiers 1990 (fn 32)? Also: there are now ISBN incompatbility warnings for Boxer, Fraser and Wilson. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 20:40, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- @Hawkeye7 How does it look like now? Thanks. Wareno (talk) 17:01, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Still needs a few references. Second paragraph of Background. Fourth paragraph of Battle. Fourth paragraph of The Portuguese fortress. Third and fifth paragraphs of Portuguese administration. Hawkeye7 (discuss) 23:04, 16 September 2026 (UTC)

- ‘’’
Elbe Day’’’ — Requesting an independent B-Class assessment following substantial improvements to the article. The article has been expanded, and its historical details and citations have been checked. It covers the first documented contact near Strehla, the meeting at Torgau, the commanders’ meeting, historical significance, and subsequent commemorations. I would appreciate an independent assessment against the five B-Class criteria. Milwaukee911 (talk) 08:41, 11 October 2026 (UTC)
- Assessed B-class. Donner60 (talk) 07:13, 23 October 2026 (UTC)
- The first sentence in the Cultural references section is a stand alone paragraph and should have a citation. If it is supported by the citation in the next paragraph, I think it would be proper to combine them without making a different enough thought that a grammarian would criticize it. There are two Harvard citation errors of some sort. I don't use that format and have rarely dealt with it. So please clean those up. If you are not familiar with it that style of citation, I am sure one (or more) of the six articles listed at Wikipedia:Citation gives some instructions. Donner60 (talk) 09:03, 13 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for the review and for identifying the issues in the Cultural references section.
- I have revised the section to integrate the previously uncited opening sentence with the following paragraph and standardized the Harvard-style citations as appropriate.
- The changes have been published in the article.
- Could a reviewer please revisit the B-Class assessment and determine whether the article now meets the criteria for B-Class status?
- Thank you for your time and assistance. Milwaukee911 (talk) 21:57, 17 October 2026 (UTC)
- Perhaps I missed it the first time around but the fourth paragraph in the Meeting at Torgau section needs a citation. Also, there are still two Harvard citation errors. This will be B-class when these small matters are cleaned up. Donner60 (talk) 09:40, 18 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, Donner60, for catching these remaining issues.
- I have added citations to the fourth paragraph of the Meeting at Torgau section and corrected both Harvard-style citation errors in the Military situation subsection.
- The changes have been published. Would you please revisit the assessment? I understand that the article should qualify for B-Class once these matters are resolved.
- Thank you again for your helpful review. You guys are awesome! Milwaukee911 (talk) 13:08, 18 October 2026 (UTC)
- The reference has been added but the two Harvard errors still appear. The Getty images error in the references seems odd to me because it was also cited without an error message. So something is still wrong with the citation format for that one. The error in the bibliography appears to be that there is no citation pointing to that entry. Should this only be in external links or is it somewhere in the body with an error in the format. (If you have not encountered these Harvard errors before, you no doubt can see at least one reason that I avoid that type of citation if at all possible.) Donner60 (talk) 05:29, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you for your continued help and patience, Donner60. I understand your reservations about Harvard-style citations, and I appreciate your taking the time to identify these issues and help me improve the article.
- I corrected the Getty in-text citations to match the bibliography entry’s CITEREFGetty2014 and removed the unused Torgau City Administration bibliography entry. However, I can no longer identify the two remaining Harvard errors.
- Could you please provide the exact error messages or affected citation keys so I can correct them precisely? I want to resolve these final issues properly and bring the article up to B-Class standards.
- Thank you again for your guidance. Milwaukee911 (talk) 12:41, 21 October 2026 (UTC)
- Your corrections have cleared up the errors. They no longer appear on the page. I have assessed the article as B class. Thanks for your patience and work on the article. Donner60 (talk) 07:15, 23 October 2026 (UTC)

- By the way, don't know if this is the place to post, but how much work would be needed to get this article a milestone (GA, milhist A, WPSHIPS A)? What I need to do is create articles on all the ships where suffifcient information exists, so that the history section is more organized as per this discussion, but that takes some time. please move to the correct discussion if this is not the right place to post. What's my name?
